Frequently Asked Questions

1) Who can join the Jonathan Edwards College Philharmonic?
 
While we get funding from Jonathan Edwards College, our members
come from all parts of the Yale community, including ungraduates,
graduates, and Yale faculty. All are invited to join!
 
2) When are auditions for the 2011-2012 school year?
 
Auditions are scheduled for Sunday September 4th and Monday September 5th.
However, you can audition at anytime
during the school year by contacting us.  Please find our booth at the activity
fair to sign up for an audition time at the beginning of the year.
 
3) What instruments is the orchestra looking for?
 
Musicians on all instruments are always welcome to audition. However, every year
we also try to program some pieces which involve more atypical orchestral
instruments like saxophones, euphoniums, and guitars.
 
4) What should I prepare for the audition?
 
A short piece of your choosing (no more than 5 minutes).  A short and simple
sight-reading orchestral excerpt will also be provided at the audition.
 
5) Help! I have not been practicing over the summer. Am I good enough?
 
Don't worry! The audition is a very relaxed affair, and we fully understand that
not everyone is busy sawing away at their violins for 12 hours a day during the summer.
